The Jagiellonian University, founded in 1364, is the oldest university in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. Today the JU is also one of the best and the biggest Polish scientific and higher education institutions. It comprises 15 faculties, employs approximately 4 thousand scholars and provide education to almost 50 thousand students. Among the famous graduates of the JU were Nicolaus Copernicus and Karol Wojtyła, the future Pope John Paul II.
